What is Spiritual Health and Why is it Important?

It’s no coincidence that I am writing this blog on the day of the new Moon in Pisces. The week prior, I was minding my own business, creating one of my energy exploration guides for the members of my Moon Portal. The theme of exploration was finding spiritual balance in alignment with the energy of the Pisces new Moon.

Inside the guide, I listed what spiritual imbalance could look like in our lives. Then it hit me, square in the face. I had been experiencing most of the things on my list.

I’ve included the list from my guide below. Take a look and see if any resonate with you too.

Spiritual imbalance can show in ways that you may not expect, including:

  • Feeling empty and lacking in purpose
  • Being neglectful of your personal needs
  • Being self-absorbed and unable to see things from another perspective
  • Finding fault with everything (or everyone) around you
  • Lack of interest in things that can enrich your life
  • Other imbalances in your work or life that result in neglecting yourself or others
  • Holding onto negative vibrational frequencies and thoughts for extended periods

How many do you feel are part of your life right now? Let me know in the comments below

At this point, I decided to support getting back on track with an extended lunar practice, involving taking some well needed time away from my business, as I focus on my spiritual health.

This leads me smoothly onto my spiritual balance project, which I’m calling 7 Days of Spiritual Maintenance.

7 Days of Spiritual Maintenance

During this mini project, I plan to focus on the imbalances in my life and how to reset them.

The focus will be spiritual imbalance, the symptoms I am currently experiencing, and how I can reset myself and move forward.

Every day, I document my activities and feelings. I’m also noting the little mini-projects I’ve pursued along the way.

Areas where I need Spiritual Maintenance

So far, this is what I’ve learned:

Everything is really noisy, and I can’t think straight

For me, this is mainly digital noise. It’s kind of crept up on me as I add more apps to my phone, more email newsletter subscriptions to my inbox, more follows on social media and more files to my computer.

ACTION: I will digitally declutter my life to create space and breathing room for creativity and spiritual wellness.

My morning routine no longer works for me

I love a morning routine, as I’m at my best when I first wake up. But something I’ve noticed over the years is that my morning routine needs to change throughout the year to support where my current interests and needs lie. I often resist the necessary shift, as it feels like something I don’t have time to do, when it should be a priority.

ACTION: Review my morning routine and change it based on my current needs and interests.

My working schedule makes me feel trapped

Schedule’s keep me on track. I’m a big fan of time blocking to ensure I don’t overwork (I’m not always successful at this). However, a few times a year, I get bored of my schedule and begin to rebel against it, like a child having a tantrum on the floor of a supermarket!

ACTION: Review my schedule, making sure to prioritise the things that bring me joy in my life and business, and create time blocks to suit where I am right now.

My breaks have turned into chore time!

I have no idea how this happened, but as I work from home, it’s become too easy to put the washing on or hoover the house when I take a break instead of taking an actual restorative break. The result is that I feel more stressed by the end of the day, as I didn’t take some time out for myself between deep work.

ACTION: Schedule breaks of decent length throughout the day, and choose to do things I enjoy instead of chores, which can wait until my working day has ended.

Creativity has become something I will get around to when I have time

We all know that there will never be time for this when it’s de-prioritised in this way. Part of me is avoiding the creative process, as I’ve been detached from it for so long. The other part of me is addicted to being busy and therefore finds being away from my desk hard to do.

ACTION: Schedule creative time referring to a list of creative and fun projects I can just jump into and enjoy at anytime.

I can’t remember the last time I was in awe

Awe is a spiritual experience for me. The most common way for me to feel this is hiking the beautiful Yorkshire countryside, especially when I get up high and take in the views. When I experience awe from this activity, my eyes feel as though they can’t take in the immense beauty, and I’m overwhelmed in the best way. My stomach gets butterflies, and my skin prickles with excitement. I need more of this, as it’s like medicine for my soul.

ACTION: Plan out some routes so I already know where I’m going, and then schedule weekly trips to the countryside.

How to make necessary changes

As you can see, there is a lot going on here, which could be overwhelming. However, as I take a week of spiritual maintenance, I am playing around with each of the above to see how I can adjust my life and business to accommodate my needs. This will also give me time to adjust any schedules and processes along the way.

My goal is to find the path of least resistance, so wish me luck!

As I go through the week, I will document everything, and add to this introductory blog with a series of updates that I hope will inspire you to check out the spiritual balance in your own life.

My biggest change so far

This week (and it’s only Wednesday as I write this) has been eye opening, so I’ve scheduled a ‘Spiritual Week’ into my calendar every 12 weeks. Although stepping back in this way feels impossible right now, I know deep down that the increase in productivity and creativity will make this action a no-brainer.

Tell me your thoughts

  • Do you feel that things are out of balance in your life? If so, what is the most significant area of your life?
  • How can you make time and space to review and reset any imbalances?
